About the Pottery
Our unique, hand-thrown porcelain pottery is as functional as it is decorative. These distinctive pieces are individually thrown, trimmed, and fired to over 2100 degrees, which makes them durable, dishwasher, oven, and microwave safe, as well as lead free. They are thin, light, and well-balanced, which makes them a joy to use.
Bowls, vases, and vessels can be personalized and customized with handlettered inspirational messages: poems, quotes, sayings, or your own words of love, wisdom, or other heartfelt sentiments. These unusual, useful, and beautiful porcelain pieces make the perfect gifts for weddings, babies, birthdays, anniversaries….or any other special moment you’d like to remember. They will be treasured by you now, and become your family heirlooms.
You can order items from our Porcelainspiration gallery, or you may personalize your own piece to suit your special occasion. They will be a fabulous addition to your home, your dining experience, and your daily life. Customized corporate gifts may be ordered and delivered directly to your customers.
At Pottery Mountain, we believe that a gift of art comes from the heart. Finding the perfect saying for each of you gives us great pleasure. Together we will create the perfect gift that expresses what’s in your heart.
About the Artist
My name is Lesley Reich and I have been a production potter since 1972. I studied with Professor Hui Ka Kwong at Douglass College in 1970. The next year I worked with Janka McClatchey, a well-known potter in Ann Arbor, MI. My early pieces were functional stoneware that I sold at my first craft fair, the Free Art Fair, in 1972.
In 1987, after I felt I had perfected my throwing skills, I moved on to porcelain. Using porcelain is a lot like throwing stiff cream cheese. Many of my bowls and vessels are translucent, and they are all trimmed so they are light, thin, and well-balanced, making them a joy to use. By combining jeweltone oxidation (electric fired) glazes and applying them on the pure white porcelain, I achieve unusual, striking combinations.
In 2001, I found a way to merge my love of words (I was a journalism major at Douglass) with my love of pottery, and developed a line of wheel thrown bowls, vases, and vessels with hand-lettered inspirational messages. This led to a body of work that embraces my philosophy of life. I use my own words, as well as those of my friends, historical figures, literary and other public figures, and that great prolific author – anonymous. I also enjoy doing, and even encourage, custom work to create the perfect piece for your special person or occasion. In addition to writing in English and the Romance languages, I have made special orders in Hebrew, and even Sanscrit. Finding just the right saying for each of you gives me great pleasure. Together we can create functional heirlooms to be used today and cherished forever.
I have exhibited and sold my work in juried art and craft fairs from Vermont to Florida, and New York to California, and in galleries, department stores, and shops nationwide. My pieces are part of the White House Ornament Collection and the Franklin D. Roosevelt Library and Museum and numerous collections around the world.
